Summer in Hubli Means Packed Buses. NWKRTC Has Added More. Here Is What Changed

Key Takeaway: NWKRTC has deployed additional bus services from Hubballi to handle the summer vacation travel surge, reducing wait times and improving connectivity to key destinations across North and Central Karnataka.

The Summer Rush Is Real and It Hits Hubballi Every Year

Every May and June, bus stands in Hubballi fill up fast. Students heading home after university exams, families visiting relatives, workers heading to hometowns for festivals, and tourists moving through North Karnataka create a seasonal pressure that the regular bus schedule was never designed to absorb.

This year, the North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) has responded proactively by adding special services to manage the load.

What NWKRTC Has Done

The corporation has deployed additional buses on high-demand routes from Hubballi, including services toward Bengaluru, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Bagalkot, and Haveri. The move follows consistent feedback from commuters about overcrowded conditions during peak summer travel.

South Western Railway has also stepped in, operating special train services to supplement road transport. A weekly special train was announced between Hubballi and key stations to handle the overflow of passengers during the holiday period.

Tips for Travelling from Hubballi This Summer

Book bus tickets online through the NWKRTC portal or the KarnatakaBus mobile app to avoid last-minute queues at the counter. Morning and late-night departures tend to be less crowded than afternoon services. For long-distance travel to Bengaluru, the express services via NH 48 are significantly faster than ordinary routes.

For train travel, the Hubballi Junction (UBL) station connects to Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, and several other major cities. Advance booking is strongly recommended for May-June travel.

The Broader Infrastructure Gap

The annual summer scramble also highlights a longer-standing question about whether Hubballi’s transport infrastructure is growing at the pace that a city of its size and ambition requires. With the airport expansion underway and industrial projects set to bring in thousands of new workers, the city’s connectivity needs are only going to grow.

For now, the additional NWKRTC services provide practical relief. The bigger conversation about Hubballi’s long-term mobility is one that residents, elected representatives, and planners will need to have seriously before the next growth wave arrives.
